SEFA Joins the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction to Accelerate Sustainable Finance for the Built Environment

Brussels, 05 June 2025

We are pleased to announce our official membership in the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) under the leadership of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), reinforcing our commitment to driving climate-resilient, energy-efficient, and zero-emission solutions across Europe and beyond.

As the global buildings sector currently accounts for nearly 37% of energy and process-related CO₂ emissions and over 34% of global energy demand, there is an urgent need for collective action. Through this partnership, SEFA will contribute to the transition toward a net-zero, efficient, and resilient buildings and construction sector, working alongside over 360 GlobalABC members, including 60 countries.

SEFA will actively contribute to GlobalABC’s Hubs on Finance, Adaptation and Data, which foster collaboration among governments, industry, civil society, and finance actors. These Hubs serve as action-oriented platforms to tackle systemic barriers to decarbonisation, while promoting inclusive, finance-driven pathways toward a climate-aligned built environment.

“Joining GlobalABC represents a natural step forward in SEFA’s mission to scale investment for sustainable energy and buildings,” said Angeliki Konstantinopoulou, Executive Director of SEFA. “We believe that finance is a powerful enabler for delivering the just transition. By engaging with GlobalABC, we aim to help shape policies, share financial innovation, and build stronger public-private partnerships that can drive long-term impact in the buildings sector.”
