EUSEW 2025: Affordable Housing in a Green Transition: Financing Solutions for Inclusive and Sustainable Living

📍 Charlemagne Building, Mansholt Room, Ground Floor, Rue de la Loi 170, Brussels

Affordable housing is a cornerstone of social equity and sustainability in Europe’s green transition. This session explores innovative financing models, energy efficient solutions, and policy frameworks to accelerate affordable, energy resilient housing aligned with EU decarbonisation goals.

This session will focus on integrating energy efficiency and the adoption of renewable technologies (such as solar heat) into affordable housing plans through innovative financial mechanisms, public-private partnerships, and EU-led initiatives. By exploring case studies, financing tools and policy frameworks, the session will demonstrate pathways to scale up energy efficient/renewable and affordable housing projects across Europe.

This session will address:

  • How the EU can ensure affordable housing aligns with the green transition goals?

  • What financing solutions can make energy efficient and renewables based housing accessible to low and middle income groups?

  • How can public-private partnerships accelerate housing renovations and new developments?

  • What role do EU policies play in creating harmonized, sustainable housing initiatives across member states? Should new business models be explored?
